Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment has been making many exciting announcements these past couple of weeks, from the release of the Justice League trailer to the announcement that Geoff Johns will helm a Batgirl project based on the New 52 rendition of the character. At what looks to be the Fast and the Furious 8 premiere event, MTV caught up with Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock to ask him some questions about his upcoming role in the DCEU as Black Adam and the Shazam project.
Johnson teased viewers that there will be surprising for Black Adam coming out which is going to be awesome, according to him. He has mentioned that Black Adam and Captain Marvel AKA Shazam! will both build up in separate stand alone movies before coming together to face eat other off. In some ways, it is a new way that the DCEU could do trilogies especially given that the studio appears to be leaning towards a different way to do sequels rather than do them as trilogies. Additionally, he didn’t directly answer MTV News representative Josh Horowitz on whether Captain Marvel AKA Shazam has been cast which would likely mean that the studio has yet to decide on an actor for the role.
The Rock seems to be very hands on the development of the film and its associated projects which is always a good sign of the commitment. Unlike Vin Diesel whose role as Black Bolt, King of the Attilan, fell through after the Inhumans film was scrapped in favor of a TV series that will premiere later this year, Johnson is unlikely to be going anywhere.
In the meantime, the DCEU will release it’s first film this year Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017, which will star Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. The Fate of the Furious will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
