Following months of speculation on the actress who would portray Marvel’s iconic Captain Marvel, it has finally been confirmed that Brie Larson have the honor of playing Carol Danvers. Brie Larson has had a success year thus year following her first Oscar win for her portrayal of Joy “Ma” Newsome in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room. She is currently slated to join Tom Hiddleston (Loki) in Kong: Skull Island and have a few other upcoming movies. Larson is by far one of more successful young actresses in Hollywood right now. Her casting as Captain Marvel merely amplifies her dominance in the industry and raises her up to a whole new level.
Carol Danvers was an Air Force pilot who after being fused with alien DNA, gains superpowers which she uses to fight crime as an intergalactic superhero. Danvers’ abilities are astounding by any standard which includes super-strength, flight, and explosive blasts of radiant energy, which she fires from her fingertips. She also possesses the ability to absorb other forms of energy, such as electricity, which magnifies her already impressive strength and energy projection, up to the force of an exploding nuclear weapon. However, Danvers is not able to absorb magical energy without side effects.
While she is likely to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe entrance in 2018’s Avengers 3 (currently titled Infinity Wars), she could make cameos in other Marvel space films such as Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As for her movie, there has been not confirmed on the director but it has been reported Marvel Studios is looking for a female director to helm the project.
Captain Marvel joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters on March 8, 2019.
