The sequel to the highly successful superhero hit Deadpool recently lost its director (Tim Miller) due to creative differences, but it didn’t take long for Fox to find another to helm the highly anticipated sequel! The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that David Leitch, known for directing the critically acclaimed movie John Wick, has sealed the deal to direct Fox’s Deadpool 2.
Given the success of Deadpool, Leitch’s little experience with directing makes this decision paritcularly surprising. Over his long career, Leitch has dipped his toes into acting (V for Vendetta and Charmed) but is more known for his stunt work. That said, given his experience in action films, it would be interesting to see what Leitch brings to the table in this sequel especially since the previous film’s action sequences has garnered praise from both critics and fans.
All I can really add is that I’m sad to see him off the film. Tim’s brilliant and nobody worked harder on Deadpool than he did.
Deadpool 2 is reported to be centered around the Merc with the Mouth and his partners Cable and Domino from the comics. It was rumored that Miller abrupt exit from the film was primarily due to who should be cast as the mutant Cable for the upcoming film. Regardless, since Reynolds will be playing an integral part in the development of the film, it’s safe to say that Deadpool 2 is in the best possible hands, along with original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese.
In addition to this news, it appears that Fox is extremely confident that this sequel would match the success or even surpass the first film as it is also reported that they have already started working on Deadpool 3 which is rumored to include the X-Force – something that X-men fans have wanted for the longest time.
Fox has not set a release date for Deadpool 2 but it is expected that the film will hit theatres sometime in 2018.
