Comic book retailer ComicsPro has received news that DC Comics is planning on giving a similar treatment to some of the iconic Looney Toons characters, also owned by Warner Bros. Given that majority of these characters are strongly imprinted in our minds since we were young, it would be interesting to see the direction that DC Comics will take with these characters. It has since been revealed that this treatment has been dubbed “DC Comics VS Looney Tunes” with several covers for the upcoming titles surfaced, namely Jonah Hex Vs Yosemite Sam, Martian Manhunter Vs Marvin the Martian, Lobo Vs The Road Runner, Batman Vs Elmer Fudd. (See the pictures below) It is reportedly confirmed that Jimmy Palmiotti, a comic book veteran artist, will be on the team for Jonah Hex Vs Yosemite Sam.
Last year, aside from the Rebirth initiative, DC Comics launched a new line of Hanna-Barbera titles. Owned by Warner Bros., this new Hanna-Barbera line completely changed these characters which invoked some initial skepticism, but has seen proved that DC Comics is more than capable of handling these titles. Currently, there are four Hanna-Barbera titles under the DC Comics line – Scooby Apocolypse, Wacky Raceland, Future Quest, Flintstones. DC Comics has announced two more titles centered around a gay southern playwright Snagglepuss and WWII fighter aces Dastardly and Muttley.
If this new line does well, you can probably expect the more popular characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Speedy Gonzales, Wile E. Coyote and the Tasmanian Devil, make their DC Comics debuts and challenge our favorite heroes.
