Following this year’s LEGO Batman movie, which made $312 million against an $80 million budget, Warner Bros. is preparing for the release of The Flash’s own LEGO movie. Under the banner of LEGO DC Super Heroes, WB is setting up an interconnected universe of these iconic DC characters – a LEGO version of the DCEU. Today, WB released the first trailer for the film:
Primary Justice League characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg will all be included in the film as part of the Justice League. However, the trailer shows us that the film will include new characters such as the Atom, Firestorm, Dr. Fate, Plastic Man, and of course, the main antagonist the Reverse Flash. The film’s synopsis reads:
Along the route, The Flash encounters numerous new characters being introduced to the popular DC Super Heroes series, including The Atom; B’dg, a squirrel-esque Green Lantern; a pair of legendary super pets in Ace the Bat-Hound and Krypto the Super-Dog, Batman and Superman’s faithful canine pals; as well as Aquaman’s trusted seahorse, Storm.
With the DC Extended Universe having a tough time appealing to the critics and Justice League underperforming at the box office, it is wise that the Warner Bros. is expanding the LEGO DC universe. As compared to the realism and darker tones of the DCEU, the LEGO DC Super Heroes serve as an alternative to that by delivering plenty of humor and fun that most of the audiences, especially the younger ones, are used to. It also serves as a great opportunity to introduce the lesser known characters like Dr. Fate, Zatanna and even Plastic Man to the general audience before adapting them into a live action film in the DCEU. There’s a lot to be excited about for this LEGO Flash film.
LEGO DC Super Heroes: The Flash will be available on Blu-ray March 13, 2018, and digital February 13, 2018.
