Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is less than 2 weeks away and the hype for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 box office hit just keeps growing, especially with James Gunn’s daily new content on instagram. On top of that, news of Miley Cyrus’ casting in the film has just surfaced which sent a shockwave throughout the comicbook community and the entertainment media too!
Thursday’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 teased the role of Mainframe from Marvel Head Kevin Feige and Director James Gunn in an adorable exchange between the two. Blogger Sarah Ruhlman, who was at the Los Angeles press junket for the movie, revealed that after Gunn revealed Cyrus’ role, he said, “I was watching ‘The Voice,’ and I [thought] she’s so likable, and her voice is awesome, she’s got the best voice. And then I asked Kevin [Feige], ‘What do you think about casting Miley Cyrus as the voice of Mainframe?’ He was like, ‘Well, if you think we can get her.’ … and I got her to do it.”
If the positive early screening reviews for the film hasn’t got you excited, this breaking news is sure you make you want to watch the film – even if you’re not a fan of the Hannah Montana star. Miley Cyrus is one of this generation’s most popular entertainers. While controversial, she has always been true to herself and serves as a unique and albeit unconventionally role model for this new generation. It would surely be exciting to see how she performs in her role as Mainframe.
Mainframe isn’t exactly the most popular character in the Marvel Universe but the character does have ties with the Avengers. The android first appeared in 1999 in A-Next #1. Due to his decision to retire from being Iron Man, Tony Stark created the android inspired by his Iron Man armor to continue his legacy. He eventually formed a term with Stinger, J2 and Thunderstrike called A-Next, a new team of Avengers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hits theaters on May 2, 2017.
