It seems superhero films has become such a sure fire hit than studios are confident enough in confirming sequels even before the film is released. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 joins this, for now, elite group as James Gunn has given the confirmation that he will return to write and direct the next Guardians of the Galaxy film through a lengthy Facebook post.
Before announcing him continuing with the franchise, Gunn answered a couple of popular questions such as:
Wasn’t there a lot more pressure dealing with the sequel of a beloved film? No, there was less, because this time I knew there was an audience waiting to see it!
What was it like working with Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone? Daunting and at times overwhelming – I ran around in my backyard as a kid pretending to be Snake Plissken and John Rambo, so these guys are true icons to me.
And finally What’s the deal with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and are you going to direct?
Launching in 17 days, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be another huge hit for Marvel Studios. The film has received very positive response from text screening and has a huge fan base to boot – tracking puts the film’s opening weekend box office around $150 million.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
