Grant Morrison to Lead New Green Lantern Series

DC will be publishing a new Green Lantern Series led by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp.

Following DC Rebirth, we have had two main Green Lantern titles - 'Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps (Vol 1)' and 'Green Lanterns (Vol 1)'. This new series is said to put Hal Jordan back in the spotlight which he hasn't had much of since the New 52 series 'Green Lantern (Vol 5)'.

Instead of the big, epic, 12-part stories, we’re focusing down on the everyday life of a space cop. Basically, it’s no more apocalypse-ending storylines. The basic concept is that [Hal Jordan] is like a space cop that patrols a sector of the universe where anything can happen. We’ve made it more like a police procedural. - Morrison

Considering the Green Lantern Corps has long been described as an intergalactic police force, it's about time we get a more "down-to-Earth" series. It gives the Morrison a chance to delve into deep parts of the universe that haven't been explored. Focusing solely of Hal Jordan, the series will reintroduce long forgotten alien Lanterns as well as new ones.

We’re doing Hal Jordan where, you know he’s a good cop, but is he really a good guy? And we’re looking into his relationships and how he deals with people. And also the fact that, if you’ve got a job as a space cop, it’s hard to be stuck on the planet Earth. He has other lives on other planets. We’re gonna be looking into a lot of things that I don’t think we’ve seen a lot with Hal Jordan before.

At SDCC, DC co-publisher Jim Lee has said the series will "question what the notion of justice in space is." Given that we are dealing with thousands of sectors, we can't expect all of them to follow the type of justice that we are used to. Different worlds would been different law of governance and different ways to doing things - that's something that readers can look forward to learning. Furthermore, we will see Jordan meet up with other Green Lanterns that come from different worlds, different cultures, and their sense of what justice is feels like would be very, very different. IGN also revealed some art for the book.

Synopsis

In this debut issue, when Earth’s space cop, Hal Jordan, encounters an alien hiding in plain sight, it sets off a chain of events that rocks the Green Lantern Corps—and quite possibly the Multiverse at large—to its very core. There’s an inter-galactic conspiracy afoot, as well as a traitor in the GL Corps’ ranks, so strap in for more mind-bending adventures in this masterpiece in the making.

'The Green Lantern (Vol 6) #1' arrives on November 7, 2018.
