Despite the massive success of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, the recent controversy surrounding their director James Gunn and the subsequent outbursts by Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) has forced Marvel Studios to put the upcoming 3rd volume on indefinite hold.
We are now receiving reports that the movie will not begin production until February 2021, which would imply that we won’t see the movie anytime before late 2022. It is further reported that the working title is “Hot Christmas”, hinting at a festive theme. Despite Gunn leaving the franchise, it is believed that Marvel Studios will still be using his script, but there have been reports that there will be a massive change to the team line up in the 3rd film.
James Gunn has found a new home in the DCEU as he takes over David Ayer, helming the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel. The massive box office success of ‘Suicide Squad’ puts the sequel in fast track. While DC is getting some backlash from the hiring of Gunn, the promise of a fresh take on the characters might just be enough for audiences be excited for the film.
