Sony is working on continuing the Spider-Man universe even without Spider-Man. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Chris Yost, who wrote the script for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Movie Thor: Ragnarok, is working on a script for a potential Silver Sable and Black Cat film.
It was reported recently that studio has already started development on a movie centering around the Spider-Man villain Venom, there has even been speculation that Andrew Garfield may be reprising his role from the Amazing Spider-Man. With the Venom movie scheduled for October 2018, it’s safe to assume that this potential Silver Sable and Black Cat film would have a release date around 2019 or maybe even a late 2018 release (though unlikely). It has also been learned that Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will be producing the project.
Mercenary Silver Sable and cat burglar Black Cat are both friend and foe to Spider-Man, which the latter having a romantic relationship with him from a prolonged period. With the Sony and Marvel collaborated film Spider-Man: Homecoming set for release this summer, it is still confusing as to how these Spider-Man spin off films will fit in the Sony universe or the MCU for that matter. Chances are, if they aren’t in the MCU, then the MCU can’t use them as it would just be really confusing for everyone.
Yost being heavily involved in Marvel Studios could possibly hint at the film being part of the MCU, making it another collaborate film with Sony – but that could very well be wishing thinking. Yost is also known for his work in the comic book industry being the writer for several X-Men series.
In the meantime, Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017.
