Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is about a month away from us and we still don’t know much about the mysterious character that iconic actor Sylvester Stallone is playing! However, this new rumor, if true, could finally give us an answer.
Via Twitter, MoviesBookIT shared a supposed press release for the upcoming sequel to the 2014 hit film Guardians of the Galaxy. While it has yet to be verified, the image revealed that Stallone with be playing Stakar Ogord, better known in the Marvel Universe as Starhawk. James Gunn has revealed that Stallone will be playing a very important character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so it’s not such a stretch that he will be playing Starhawk given that it was his actions that led to the formation of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the 31st century. Even though it hasn’t been confirmed by Stallone or James Gunn, it’s safe to assume that this is more or less legit.
In the comics, Starhawk is a the son of iconic Marvel superhero Quasar and Kismet, AKA Ayesha, who will be appearing the film played by Elizabeth Debicki. Starhawk resides mainly in an alternate reality from the main continuity in Earth 616, the Earth 691. Given that Ayesha is rumored to be standing in the way of the Guardians, having Starhawk to aid the Starlord and his team would surely be interesting to watch – yet another reason why this rumor seems legit.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will see the Guardians in action before coming to Earth to aid the Avengers in stopping Thanos in the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War and while it is said to be an exclusive journey, I wouldn’t put in past them to make some references to Thanos and the infinity stones. The film will see the original team expanding to include new comer Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Adding big names like Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russel, who will be playing Peter Quill AKA Star Lord’s father Ego, the Guardians are set for another big hit at the box office. Especially with Smallville Alum Michael Rosenbaum appearing in an unknown but important role, there’s still a lot that we don’t know about this film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
