Following the release of the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer a couple of weeks ago, Marvel has released the first trailer for the final film in the Thor trilogy – Thor: Ragnarok.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok takes place following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which ended with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returning to Asgard to seek answers regarding the infinity stones. The trailer reveals that Thor is somehow captured by the Grandmaster and his army following the destruction of Mjolnir by the Asgardian goddess of death, Hela – the ruler of Hel and Nifleheim – who will be portrayed by the Academy and Golden Globe winning actress Cate Blanchett. The trailer ends with Thor battling it out with Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, both in gladiator armor.
Waititi has teased us about possibly exploring the budding relationship between Hulk and Thor, given that they are the most powerful of the Avengers and they have a oddly charming chemistry. That could be something to be excited for if it is indeed happening since Waititi also mentioned that the script is constantly changing and “who knows what the final movie will look like”.
Thor: Ragnarok will see both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston reprising their roles as Thor and Loki from the previous films. Along with Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner AKA the Hulk, newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme. As for now, we don’t quite know the extent of Cumberbatch’s presence in the film, but we do know that he will aid Thor in his search for his father on Earth. Whether or not he journey with them to help fight the enemies of Asgard is left unknown. Together with Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, known for the quirky personality of his characters, will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Grandmaster, one of the all-powerful Elders of the Universe.
